This is a general overview of the concepts involved in the audio course.  We discuss mindfulness, dream recall, lucid dreaming, and much more.

Our minds are capable of perceiving imagery even with our eyes closed.  We generate images in the dream state, but in this session, we explore how to do it in the waking state.  

Starting the Course 1-3

This is the first session of the course.  We start out with a mindful meditation, and then we discuss best behaviors and practices for getting healthy, restful sleep. We then segue into the next steps in the course.

 After opening with a meditation, we do a brief recap on sleep hygiene, and then we touch on the different stages of sleep, and how to improve dream recall.  We also discuss dream journaling methods and conclude with a memory exercise.

Here we discuss the concept of mindfulness and some results from practicing meditation:  Next we meditate!  We learn how to sit for meditation and how to guide attention and awareness. Presence-of-mind put into practice.

Awareness of the Senses 4-7

We start off with a short meditation, and then get into the concepts of seeing and imagery.  Next we do an exercise in mindful vision and how this ties into dream imagery.  We also discuss dream recall and the images we remember.

First we practice more of our mindful meditation, and then we delve into the next of our senses: Hearing.  We take some time here to focus mindfully on listening, how sounds manifest in our minds and in our dreams.

Focusing more on the body here – the physical sensations of being in a body and always being in a particular place at all times.  Then we discuss awareness of time and space in dreams and how that can be a much different experience.

Moving on to the various emotions that arise in our lives.  This exercise shows that emotions, like sensory perception, and dreams, are all processes of the mind.  It’s about how we relate to the things in our lives.

Lucid Dreaming Techniques 8-12

In this section of the course, we delve into HOW to get lucid during the dream-state.  We start by judging whether we are awake or asleep and plan for this to occur during dreams.

Next step in judging our state of mind is putting it to the test.  Here you’ll learn how to reliably test whether or not you are dreaming, and when you remember to do this during a dream, you’ll become lucid.

This session teaches you what to look for in dreams that might clue you in to the fact that you’re dreaming.  These clues are called dream signs.  Learn all about it in this guided session.

Here we meditate and then reflect on the fact that we can be aware of our own mental processes. Rather than being lost in thought or a dream, we can become aware of what our thoughts are doing, and we can become aware we are dreaming during the dream.

 This session teaches you how to remember to become lucid during dreams, as well as some memory exercises to practice during the day. Prospective memory is ‘remembering to remember to do something, as in, get lucid. Learn more in this session.

Advancing Your Practice 13-20

In this session, you learn to guide your attention so that you stay focused and stay balanced.  You’ll observe your natural tendencies to lose focus and balance, but then you’ll be guided right back to it.   This is a valuable exercise for lucidity as well.

This is a powerful technique for attaining lucidity.  Building off of what we already learned about sleep stages, memory, awareness, lucidity, and dream recall, in this session you’ll learn how to put your knowledge to good use and try to get lucid.

This session is intended for you to listen to during your Wake Back to Bed exercise.  It can be listened to every time you try WBTB if you like – this is a great primer for you to try to get lucid when you go back to bed.

At this point in the course, you have learned what lucidity is and how to attain lucidity during the dream state.  It may take practice to get lucid at first, and the next challenge is staying lucid.  Here you’ll learn helpful methods to stay in the lucid state once you get there.

Sometimes dreams can be TERRIFYING.  But let’s shed some light on nightmares and why the mind creates such intense, disturbing experiences.  This session is all about what nightmares are, how to manage them, and why mindfulness and lucid dreaming are so effective in dealing with them.

Now that you’ve learned more about why nightmares occur and the concept of approaching them mindfully, we can put that knowledge to use.  Getting lucid during nightmares and knowing what to do in that state of mind can have profound, transformative effects and resolve problems at the subconscious level.

We are ALL human and we all have the capacity to suffer.  The flip side is that we all have the ability to be compassionate, caring, and good towards each other to ease that suffering.  We can practice this in our dreams with our dream characters, after all, they are all just a part of ourselves.

This is the final session in this first version of the Mind Awake course.  Here we remind you to continue your practices, and be mindful of the cognitive shifts you’ve experienced throughout the course.  Use what you’ve learned to make your life and those around you better.
